Perhaps I’m a bit behind on the jargon watch, but watching the Chris Pirillo video below introduced me to the term “presence” services. That would be things like Twitter, Facebook status, Jaiku and Pownce — services that allow you to post what you’re doing right now. (Another way you might hear such services described is “micro-blogging.”)

Have you noticed that Twitter seems to be down a lot lately? Frustrating. That might give an opening to Jaiku to leap ahead of Twitter, which got first-mover advantage in the presence services space. That Jaiku was acquired by Google makes it all the more a threat to Twitter.
