So I’m the “doyen of online media columnists,” according to Guy Berger in his article, “It’s taken time, but finally the press ‘gets’ online,” for South Africa’s Mail & Guardian. Dictionary definition for doyen: “A man who is the eldest or senior member of a group.”
I don’t know whether to take that as some sort of compliment or merely a blunt indicator of advancing age. (Yeah, I’m closing in on 50.) Maybe that’s why thoughts of early retirement go through my brain periodically these days! )
And I notice from the picture accompanying Guy’s column that his hair is as gray as mine. Long live old new-media guys!
