Note to Ricky: Apparent greed doesn’t become you

By Steve Outing

No big surprise. I was right that if Ricky Gervais & Co. think they can charge $1.95 per episode for their podcast of three (funny) guys talking, they’re nuts. The first run of 12 “Ricky Gervais Show” podcasts were free. Now there’s a second series of four shows coming online; the first episode is available now either at Audible.com or on Apple’s iTunes for $1.95.

If you take a look at the user reviews on the iTunes store page for the Gervais show, you’ll see tons of comments. At this writing, ALL of them are people complaining about the price. Just about everyone is saying that they enjoy the show and probably would pay 50 or 99 cents — but $1.95 is too high.

Gervais had a winner with this podcast. Unless the price is dropped, it’ll go down in flames quickly.
